In conventional photography filters, saturated color films, and so on alter the reality. In portrait photography the alteration of reality begins already with the make up of the model. The photograph may be retouched or corrected digitally but the cosmetic alterations are not, or should not be, obvious. In contrast, creative photography emphasizes the alteration of reality.

Fashion photography revolves around the model. You cannot take good fashion pictures of models if you do not know how to pose models. Taking pictures of models in a fashion photography way requires that you and the model be up to par with the task that is required.

To get good at taking fashion photographs the first step would be to start studying these types of photographs. Get as many magazines and look at as many advertisements as you can. Learning how to expose a photo properly is not hard at all. It is probably one of the easiest things to learn in photography.
Following are different modes that you can expose in —

Shutter Priority Mode
This mode lets you control how long light is let into your camera. The aperture is then automatically adjusted to this length of light let in. This is the best option when you want to avoid blur or are in certain settings. For example, in very bright settings you want to use a shutter that is fast. Whereas a dark area would require a longer exposure for the light.

Aperture Priority Mode

This mode lets you control the amount of light that is let in through the iris of the camera. A larger iris means more light will be let in. This is good for scenes without much light like the shade or indoors. A small aperture is good for bright settings or scenes that you want lots of depth focused.
In this mode, the shutter is automatically adjusted to the aperture to properly expose the shot.

Manual Mode

The manual mode is more complex. You must properly expose the shutter and the aperture. You need a light meter to do this properly. This is really not a mode to start using until you’re more familiar with the settings.
